         BC Premier Christy Clark says coal mining is a vital part of the BC Jobs Plan.

The BC Auditor General said that BC government’s Environmental Assessment Office can’t assure British Columbians that the conditions and commitments on which a project (such as Raven Coal) is approved would be honoured by the company.  Will taxpayers end up paying for decommissioning, reclamation, environmental damage, accidents?

 The provincial NDP passed a resolution on the Raven Project asking for better aquifer mapping, an independent expert review panel and expressing concern about the risk to the shellfish industry, but the party has yet to come out firmly against project.
